There Is No Way To See

return to poetry index

there is no way to see just out of reach and no way to dream
big when my fingers won't fit through the slats and my fists can't crush
holes through the hard steel of what has been left behind

i've felt tender shoots brushing my face and poking through where i cannot go
and i've wondered if i too should endeavor to grow through small openings

could courageous extensions begin my surrender
even as I remain anxious and fully exposed, confined under my shame

how will i love her, how will I guard my intention, how will I trust her
how will i find the strenght to hone the edge of vulnerability
how will i accommodate my fear
